PORTSMOUTH HEALTH FOOD RETIREMENT NEWS:
Hello and Happy Summer to you all! We hope that you are enjoying the blooming flowers, warmer temperatures, and the lifting of Covid restrictions.
It is with mixed emotions, that we are letting you know that Portsmouth Health Food will soon be closing it’s doors, as we retire the business. As you may know, PHF has been owned and operated by the Nelson family since 1978. It has been a wonderful and fulfilling journey for us, serving the community by providing and sharing what is important to us: healthy food, organic produce, nutritional supplements, health and beauty and household products and information that empowers people to lead a healthy lifestyle and take control of their own health.
Many thanks to all of our customers for their support of PHF, Madeline's Truly Organic Kitchen, and Nelson Farm (organic produce) - those who are new to the store, and those who've been shopping here for years and/or decades. We appreciate your support of Nelson Farm through purchasing our organic produce over the years. We plan to continue farming on a small scale, and if you are interested in obtaining produce in the future from us, please let us know, and/or give us permission to email you with updates on this and any other related news.
We’ve formed many amazing friendships and learned so much from customers, vendors, health care practitioners, and store staff throughout the years. We feel tremendous gratitude for all of these people in our lives and their connections, contributions, and support of the store. Some have shared their health concerns, joys and sorrows with us; and we've experienced fun times at work, laughter, and camaraderie with staff and customers as well.
We’ve watched your children and grandchildren grow from infancy to adulthood; some that we met as infants became store employees as adults.
Running a small family business has also been extremely challenging for us; additionally so with all of the curve balls thrown at us by the pandemic as well as challenges posed by the parking situation in Downtown Portsmouth. We greatly appreciate our customer and staff loyalty throughout these challenging and uncertain times. We also look forward to having much needed down time and personal time to pursue other activities and interests.
The proposed final day of PHF's operation is July 15, however that date may be adjusted due to a variety of factors. We'll keep you posted on adjustments and upcoming sales and discounts. We are considering keeping the kitchen open for smoothies, sandwiches, and light grab-and-go fare beyond July 15th, as we tidy up the space before leaving 151 Congress Street. Watch for emails and notices on our website for updates.
Please redeem gift certificates if you have them, and pick up special orders as soon as possible. If you wish to place special orders, please do so ASAP as well, and we will do our best to help meet your needs before closing the store.
Wishing you all the best; health and happiness,
With gratitude for your kind patronage,
The Nelson Family
Madeline's Truly Organic Kitchen update:
Smoothies with 100% organic fruit (and also no ice or artificial flavorings added) and Panini Sandwiches are back! available from 10am to 3 pm daily.
We are doing everything that we can to keep our store environment clean, healthy, aired out, and sanitized for customers and staff, and still be able to provide you with the essentials that you and your family need during this challenging time. We are offering curbside service and we are also allowing walk-in service at this time. We ask you to keep at least 6 feet social distance from staff and other customers while in the store.
We ask for your help in keeping our community safe--if you're experiencing symptoms or think you may have been exposed to COVID-19, please stay home.
For your convenience, the monthly sales flyer is posted on this website under the section "Sales and Discounts".
Thank you so much for your patience and support during this challenging time!
Curbside Service Instructions:
Compose a new email and send to: firstname.lastname@example.org . Please do not use the link to our email on the website, as it is only for subscribing to our email list or sending a brief message; and if you use that, your order will not come through to us.
Please list the items that you want to purchase with as much detail as possible, including:
Brand, size, and quantity. Please state whether you prefer organic or not organic when it's an option, (for example for things like bulk almonds, oats, bulk rice, etc.). If you specifically want pre-packaged or bulk, please state that (e.g. bulk basmati rice vs. Lundberg 2 lb. package rice). If you are flexible on available brands, please let us know. For example, we may be out of your favorite brand of tofu, but if another brand is acceptable, please mention that.
Please try to provide a complete order without "add-ons" and especially multiple add-ons if possible. If you request add-ons, we will do our best to provide them, but with multiple curbside orders and limited staff, one email per order helps us to avoid errors.
We may have to limit quantities of products depending upon available supply, but we will do our best to fill your order.
Please provide your phone number on the email, and we will call you when your order is ready, and to obtain your credit card information. We will fill orders in the order received; it's best to place your order early. Orders placed one to two hours before closing may not be ready until the next business day. Please arrange to pick up as soon as possible after your order is ready, as we have limited storage area for curbside orders.
If you are driving up, you can park in one of the 3 spaces at the back door of our store, under the green awning. Please call when you arrive to let us know that you are there. We can put the order directly into the trunk of your car, and you need not have any contact with others. For walk-up curbside service, let us know if you would like us to provide your order at the front or back door of the store. We thank you so much for your business, and your support!
Note: If you would like to order take out from Madeline's Truly Organic Kitchen for curbside service, and need further info on what's available, please call the store at 603 436 1722 and ask for the kitchen for details. Soups of the day are listed on our website under Madeline's Truly Organic Kitchen, (we are serving hot soup and also soup to go from our take out cooler, and we have many other customer favorites.) We are working to offer more items that can be heated before eating.
Our current weekday store hours are Monday-Friday, 8 am to 6 pm, Saturdays 9 am to 6 pm, and Sundays 10 am to 5 pm.
Thanks for your support and your patience during this challenging time!
